1) Document creation software, such as a word processing program or a spreadsheet program, creates a document in which color-related information is added in the text. In this case, images are created in various image formats, such as GIF, TIFF, JPEG, BMP and PICT.
2) A scanner scans an original document to create an image. In this case, color image data is created in a bitmap format, such as a JPEG, a TIFF or a BMP.
3) A color printer prints an original document on paper, and then color-related information is added to the printed document by a color separator or a color facsimile machine.
In order to faithfully reproduce the original document, it is necessary to convert the color image data created in the image-related documents 1) or 2) into the color image data which is created in the image-related documents 3). In order to achieve the conversion, “color conversion” is performed on the color image data.
Conventional color conversion is carried out as follows. First, the color image data is converted to an intermediate color space, and then the converted color data is converted to a desired color space. Here, the intermediate color space includes a dedicated color conversion function for the desired color space, and the user may provide the same conversion function as the dedicated color conversion function, or may select any pre-installed function as the dedicated conversion function. The above conversion is called “direct color conversion” because the conversion is carried out directly from the color image data to the desired color space.
In the direct conversion, the color conversion is performed by adding an amount of color correction to the original color image data. In order to achieve the direct color conversion, the color correction function is selected from the above-described function group based on an edge-cutting method in which an edge or a contour of an object is detected, and an area excluding the above-described edge or contour 0b46394aab
